We are a team of teachers who work as mentors and provide tailored professional
development programs to teachers to help them integrate technology into their practice.
We also offer strategic planning and consultancy services and can be engaged at
any stage of ICT planning or deployment.
Travis Smith
National Manager
Travis is the National Manager of Expanding Learning Horizons and works with schools
around the country to assist them to implement technology programs and ensure that
their focus is on the use of technology in the learning process, rather that the
technology itself. He works in the areas of Strategic Planning, assisting schools
starting their 1-to-1 Notebook Programs and also designing and delivering professional
learning programs for teachers. As a teacher of Psychology, Geography, History,
a Director of Computing and also Deputy Principal at Frankston High School in Victoria,
he has a thorough understanding of how schools operate at many levels. He has also
lectured in the Education Faculty at Monash University and has presented keynote
presentations and workshops at conferences around Australia and also in the US,
South Africa and New Zealand on the use of technology in education.
Joanna Walker ICT Curriculum
Specialist
Joanna has 9 years’ experience as a classroom teacher, Information and Communications
Technologies (ICTs) coordinator and Year level Coordinator. In 2007 she was involved
in an ISQ ‘Australian Quality Teachers Project’ which focused on the use of Tablet
PC’s in the classroom by students and also saw the group adapt key features in the
Heulab software to make it appropriate and innovative for Australian classroom.
As a result of her involvement in this project Joanna joined the Heulab team in
Australia in 2008 as their Business Manager. Her activities saw her working in cooperation
with organizations and schools, with the aim of promoting technology integration
to educators. Joanna joined the Expanding Learning Horizons team in 2010 as their
ICT Education Specialist. The business works with schools Australia wide to assist
them to implement 1-to-1 programs and develop and run effective professional learning
programs for teachers within schools.
Natalie Morrissey ICT Curriculum
Specialist
Natalie Morrissey is a former primary school teacher who worked in Doncaster (Victoria)
and also held positions of responsibility including the role of ICT Coordinator.
Natalie was responsible for the integration and management of ICT into all aspects
of the curriculum and was also responsible for training staff in the use of ICT
tools. Natalie managed the maintenance and administration of the ICT Program and
ensured all teachers were effectively incorporating this into their planning and
teaching. She oversaw the implementation of a collegial teaching program where she
managed and assisted teachers in the operation and use of the Interactive Whiteboards
and other technologies in their classrooms. Natalie believes that it is essential
for teachers to incorporate technology into their teaching as this is fundamental
to student learning in the 21st century. She believes that teachers need to provide
students with contemporary learning environments that foster rich experiences and
enable meaningful learning opportunities for every student.
Natalie Cartwright ICT Curriculum
Specialist
Natalie Cartwright is an innovative teacher who has had extensive experience in
Gifted Education and ICT School Support. She has had an integral role in the development
of digital classrooms and was part of the team responsible for the implementation
of online learning within her previous school. Natalie has worked alongside and
scaffolded teachers through the integration of ICT into their programmes, overseeing
planning and running school-wide professional development. She has also developed
mentoring programmes within schools to ensure that teachers had the opportunity
to participate in professional learning communities especially within the realm
of assessment. Ultimately Natalie’s professional goal is to see students accessing,
using and developing ICT tools on a daily basis and for teachers to provide engaging
and enriching experiences which are not only facilitated but encouraged via ICT.
Amanda Frampton ICT Curriculum
Specialist
Amanda has 7 years’ experience as a primary school teacher and has always led by
example when implementing ICT into the curriculum, creating engaging and innovative
digital learning environments for her students. Through her position as ICT Coordinator,
she was responsible for inspiring and supporting staff to effectively integrate
ICT into all aspects of their curriculum. She supported teachers on their journey
to acquire their departmental ICT qualifications and managed the implementation
of Interactive Whiteboards and other technologies into their classrooms. More recently,
Amanda has worked collaboratively with colleagues to plan units of work that meet
both the requirements of the Australian National Curriculum and realise the potential
of ICT as a tool to facilitate learning. She believes that through the integration
of ICT into the classroom, teaching will move from a focus of imparting knowledge
to knowledge acquisition, which will equip learners with the necessary skills to
be active participants in an evolving digital world.
Lily Cakir ICT Curriculum
Specialist
Lily is a former secondary school teacher from Sydney who has extensive experience
with integrating technology into her teaching and learning strategies. Her background
teaching Humanities and English ensures that she has worked in various committees
to support and improve the literacy abilities of students by defining a set of literacy
standards across various curriculum areas. In particular, Lily has implemented strategies
for both ESL and Special Needs students respectively whilst developing coursework
using ICT to assist teachers and the students' understanding of the specific area
taught. She has led professional learning courses on many aspects of ICT use in
learning including the use of Web 2.0 tools, and has been involved in the introduction
of specific software, laptops and Interactive Whiteboards into the school environment.
Lily keeps abreast of trends and developments in the field of technology and education
by maintaining and demonstrating an interest in recent innovations whilst networking
with colleagues in schools to promote opportunities for developing ICT rich programs.
Lily’s passion is for the role ICT can play in the development and delivery of engaging,
powerful learning for students.
